Sorry I Missed You, Susan

By: Mr. Wilson on April 14, 2008
I admire politicians who literally go door-to-door trying to drum up votes in an upcoming election. It's long and tedious work, and I'm sure you come across some real characters. I've always wanted to sit down and chat with a politician who comes to my door, but usually I just get lawn care companies and Boy Scouts selling popcorn. Until Saturday, that is. On Saturday, Susan Scott stopped by 625 Elm Street for a chat. Unfortunately, she caught me in the middle of a power nap between my niece's birthday party and two soccer games I had to go ref. By the time I woke up and gained some coherence, Ms. Scott was already back on the sidewalk, making her way to the next house. Did any of you have a chance to chat with Susan Scott this weekend? (She was in the vicinity of Zemann Elementary on Saturday.) Do any of you know much about her?

I don’t know her personally, but I can speak highly about her work while she was at the YWCA. She helped launch the No Place for Hate rally, now an annual event, and she and the YWCA worked hard to further its mission: eliminate racism and empower women.

I found the YWCA to be a civic-minded organization that did a good job of educating the public and providing services to women and the community.

I am encouraged to see she is a candidate for the Legislature and I look forward to learning more about her.

I support Tony Fulton for most of his stances on the issues.  I’m unable to find any information on Susan Scott’s site about her views… does anyone know where I can find more? Or if/when these two will have a debate?

Susan will be the first of our interviews of the legislative candidates Wednesday on Lincoln’s Morning news.  They’ll run almost every morning for the next three weeks at 8:35 a.m. and I hope I can get every Lincoln-area candidate.

We’re going to put every candidate through the same set of questions—I’m still working on them, so if you’ve got any suggestions, fire away.
