Raising Cane’s Coming to Town

By: Mr. Wilson on April 19, 2006
Swoof, over at Eatin' in Lincoln, has noted that Lincoln is about to be greeted by a Raising Cane's restaurant near 48th and 'R' (obnoxious website warning). Apparently it's a chicken finger joint with a bunch of locations in Louisiana. As far as I can tell, their menu includes chicken fingers, fries, and cole slaw, in various combinations. (Fingers, fries, and cole slaw; fingers, extra fries, and cole slaw; lots of fingers, lots of fries, lots of cole slaw; and so on.) I don't know about you, but I can hardly contain my excitement. One quick question for the grammarians out there: what's with the apostrophe in Raising Cane's? Raising Cane's what? Raising Cane's blood pressure? Raising Cane's car insurance premiums?

It should fit in well with the Popeye’s a block away.  Now all we need in that area is a KFC, and it will complete a ‘Double Trifecta’.  When they tore down the dealership at 48th and Vine, I thought the best thing to go there would be another auto parts store, because you have to go a full two blocks in either direction to find another one.  Sure enough, we get an Auto Zone! It would be a dream to be able to decide between three places where to pick up your chicken after you decide between three places where to get your auto parts. I could see Lincoln’s math teachers using this for a problem: “Say Bill is hungry and needs auto parts.  He can choose between Auto Zone, O’Reilly’s, and Advance for parts, and Popeye’s, Raising Cane’s, and KFC for chicken.  How many possible combinations of parts and chicken could Bill have?”.

Don’t forget the Texas Toast and the sandwich option which substitutes the toast with a kaiser roll and lettuce.

Oops, I missed it. The owner’s dog’s name is Raising Cane, not just Cane like I originally thought. My bad.

this doesn’t sound like a half bad place.

Grammarian checking in here, not to answer your question but to point out that your title should properly be “Raising Cane’s is coming to Town” since Raising Cane’s is the name of the restaurant.  The way you have it now would be like saying “Burger King Coming to Town.”  That’s fine in Russian, but not English.

A) I was going with “newspaper-ese” shorthand.
B) I’m a native speaker of Russian.
C) I’m trying to save my visitors’ bandwidth by leaving out silly words like “is”.

Take your pick 😉

Cane’s is a bit different than KFC or Popeyes. It’s much higher quality (and thus higher in price). The one in Texas put the KFC across the street out of business.

It’s a good place to eat. I know the guy that will run the store there in Lincoln.
