Not Kuhl
Did you hear the news that Kuhl’s is closing? Or at least, their lease won’t be renewed after March 2008.
It will be sad to see a locally-owned, Downtown staple disappear off the map, if that is indeed what ends up happening. I can’t say I was ever impressed by the place, but hey, a local favorite is a local favorite. You’ve got to do something right to keep customers for 40 years.
Do you have any classic Kuhl’s memories? Do share!

I’ve never eaten there, but one thing that really did turn me off a few years ago was when Windy Cities opened next door to them. Windy Cities wasn’t able to offer seating in their restaurant due to Kuhl’s for some reason. I thought that was silly, and the classy thing to do would be to tell them, “of course you can add seats - we don’t see how a hot dog place will really be serious competition” or something like that. I agree, 40 years in business is worth a tip of the cap.

I snuck some birfday themed paper plates down my pants in there one morning to surprise my then girlfriend on her birthday. She refused to eat off them though :(
I liked the cute little orange juice glasses. Must be like 1.5 oz or something. The place has fast service which was always nice.

My Grandma worked there in the early 70’s. I have pleasant memories of hanging out down there. Sorry to see them go.

I love going there for breakfast. I’ll miss Pete and Stella running this downtown staple.

I stopped going after the steak breakfast special exceeded $4, which has been a few years. But man, that was a lot of food for $3.95, and I would’ve probably paid that much just to watch the characters who come in and out of that place.
