Yuck. What a homer vote that is. Figured it would come down to those two. Speaking of Val’s, can anyone else believe how crummy their service is at the South Pointe food court? Nice deal on Express Meals - but someone should point out that to most people, “express” means FAST. The prices have gone up, the portions have gone down (on the pasta meals), and the service is slower than molasses. Boo.

Hey Mr. W - saw you at the food court the other night. Hope you had a nice night!

Who is Fred and Ruby?  I see they had a cheeseburger that won one round but don’t think I have ever heard of them.

Fred and Ruby is/are the grill inside of Parkway Lanes at 48th and Van Dorn (north of Van Dorn). Good burgers!

Thank You.  Pretty poor list of “signature dishes”.  It makes a certain amount of sense that Runza and Val’s makes the finals because they have been here longest and are identified with Lincoln.

When we moved away for a few years my lovely wife would have visitors bring her a Runza on the airplane.  Never heard of anyone requesting Nachos from Wilderness Ridge be transported across state lines.

If you would have asked me when I was in high school…Vals would have been the winner.  But Runza is the one that people remember in Nebraska.  I do however love Val’s lasagna…their sauce is just kind of sweet to the taste.

However…I do have one gripe about some runza locations.  Some of them really scrimp on the runza filling…It stinks when you look at the menu and it has a whole lot of filling going on.  Then you get yours and well…there is a lot of bread and not much filling.  I have noticed it is kind of location dependent…I have yet to get a bad one at the 13th & G location.  But the one at 48th & O has left me hanging a few times.

So runza guys…remember the old wendy’s saying…“wheres the beef” when stuffing those sandwiches.  I would even be happy with a smaller runza with more filling in it.

Other than that…Runza is a Nebraska tradition all the way.  And of course…we deliver them!

Moses—sorry you didn’t like the list—did we leave anything obvious out?

The list was pretty much made by contributions from Lincolnites—we took calls and emails asking people which items should make the field.

The Wilderness Ridge Nachos made the at-large region, which was mainly made up of foods that John and I didn’t come up with on our own, but we got such cumulative and repeated suggestions for those, that we added them due to popular demand.  When you’re coming up with 32 items, you’re bound to have a few that people aren’t ordering across state lines.

No, I can’t think of anything in particular you missed.  The Runza is the signature of Lincoln cuisine and won your contest as it should. It is just a little sad that a doughball stuffed with hamburger, cabbage and onions is the best we have to offer. Maybe that is why I look like a doughboy.

Jack - I think this was cool. Great stuff. I just think the top two are vastly overrated, but I am hardly surprised by their inclusion.
