Mr. Contrarian
I realize we aren’t given a lot of context, but Gene Carroll’s response to a question about the 2-to-1 match for city employees’ retirement plans seems a little odd:
I cannot respond until I see what the Republicans are saying.
Is he saying that the only opinion he can form on this controversial issue must be relative to whatever the opposing party says? That sounds an awful lot like “I don’t know what I believe in, but I know whom I disagree with”.

I think what he really meant was “I cannot respond until I see what the Journal Star is saying”. As for the contributions from the IBEW—how dare we let out of state interests influence local issues. It’s not enough that unions buy Democratic presidents, senators, and Congressman. Now they have to buy City Council members too. Awesome.

This 2 for 1 match is beyond silly and it has to go, regardless of your party affiliation. The last plan, which was to take nothing away from current employees but fix it moving forward for all new hires seems like a no-brainer. I cannot fathom how this stuff cannot get done.
