Lowe's might be coming to 66th & Highway 2. Home Depot is already at 70th & Highway 2, while Menards and Tractor Supply Co. are down the road at 87th.
Do we really need another monster home improvement store along that stretch? How much home improvement can one city do?

A hell of a lot more. Have you seen some of the shitty looking shacks north of city campus, in the capitol area, near south, and around state fair park? I am not a home owner myself, but for God sakes when I do own a home I will at least make an attempt to keep it respectable looking!
That requires you to have the time and money to do that maintenance. I suspect the target markets of Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Menards have those resources, while many of those folks living in the areas you mentioned do not.
This reminds me, though: I need to mow the lawn tonight.
