Unfortunately meth is still a huge problem and the blame goes to the pharmaceutical companies that continue to produce pseudoephedrine when there are alternatives.  I personally have had two friends commit suicide over it, meth sux.

When was the last time you could buy a medicine with cocaine or heroine in it?

Still it is nice to see that the labs are moving to other countries and not plaguing our city.

Sorry to hear about your friends. Makes me wish I could take back that comment. Meth is awful ... the way it can change a person.

yeah I thought I was being a bit of a downer there.  All good.  I got out of that bad environment over a decade ago.

Still big pharm still makes the stuff.  Makes me mad.

I don’t buy the “pseudoephedrine can be used to create bad stuff, therefore the pharmaceutical companies are evil” argument. It doesn’t take much effort to use that argument to support banning alcohol and plenty of other substances. If pseudoephedrine didn’t have advantages, it wouldn’t be on the market.

That said, meth is nasty, horrible stuff. As a general rule I’m not in favor of banning very many things. (Freedom to be stupid and all that.) But if I had a list of substances I would ban, meth would be near the top.

They is no law against making it, so I do not really have a beef with them.  I think we all know the power of the lobbyists though.

And the pharm co’s know the hassle peeps have to go through to get products that contain pseudoephedrine and are offering products that contain Phenylephrine (sudafed PE) and other alternatives to keep sales up.

Most of the meth is smuggled in now because of the laws 44 + states have passed making it harder to buy large quantities to manufacture meth.  I am very glad the methods have been successful.  But as Senator Chambers said ” you have a huge bear of a problem and you are clipping his fingernails with this bill”.

Such a nasty drug.

The pharmaceutical companies aren’t evil for making it, but they sure had a hand in lobbying the state to drop implementing a database to actually make some use of the log books they keep. I remember the state patrol saying that without a database to coordinate the info, the meth bill was essentially useless, and Heineman was all over the press saying “We’re going to defeat meth by conforming this meth bill to exactly the standards the drug lobbyists have set forth!”

I paraphrase a bit.

*ahem* pharmaceutical employee here.

pseudoephedrine (PSE) when used properly with the right combination of binders and fillers, it’s the only drug that gives my allergies relief.

PSE is the only nasal decongestant that doesn’t cause rhinitis medicamentosa (or rebound congestion) which is associated with other medications.

PSE should not be banned. however, retards who need to get high on meth should be exported to an island full of psychedelic ass-raping unicorns.
