Lincoln’s Rich and Powerful Get Naughty

By: Mr. Wilson on May 24, 2006
What is it about the rich and powerful that causes them to have to get their kicks via foul, abusive, and "racially charged" humor and lots and lots of alcohol? Is it just me, or does Monday's Lincoln Community Playhouse fundraiser sound a lot like something that would come straight out of a frat house? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good foul joke. (One of my favorite movies is Southpark: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut.) Stories like this just make me go "hmmm", that's all.

I’ve never been to the Gridiron show but I’m sure parts of it are funny.  It’s more good-old-boy stuff, in my opinion, and I’ve seen plenty of that.

Oh ... I’m a South Park fan too.  (And The Family Guy).  Talk about inappropriately funny stuff!

I went to the show last year because I was invited by a friend who was in it.  There were some laughs, though they were mostly cheap (like a couple of guys acting high when deciding what to do with the 48th and O intersection) and rarely insightful.  Yes, it had its fair share of vulgarity, but that can be expected when grown ups try to make other grown ups laugh.  Heineman was there, laughing along, and it was nice to see The Old Bag get roasted.  It was not worth the $25 last year, and I had an opportunity to go this year without charge and I declined.  I’m not bothered by the show, just curious as to why it gets any press.
