Let The Heathens Have Their Mimosas

By: Mr. Wilson on June 16, 2010
Well yes, the City Council could focus on whether or not to allow liquor sales on the morning of July 4. (Currently booze is off limits in Lincoln until noon on Sundays.) But that focus is too narrow. Rather than periodically having to make an exception to a bad law, let's just erase the bad law from the books. I can't fathom why such an antiquated, moralistic law is still on the books. Well, I suppose in fact I can. Nevertheless, it's time for the law to go. Who's with me?

I remember running into this law a couple months ago. I just got done running a half marathon and all I wanted was for Dino’s to serve me a beer.

I think the whole blue law thing should be tossed out completely.

You get my vote Mr. Wilson.

Can I get a yard sign?

In Missouri’s past you couldn’t buy anything but 3.2% beer on Sundays (much to the delight of vendors in bordering states) and no booze on election days until the polls closed to prevent politicians from getting voters drunk enough to vote for them.

Liquor store owners support your idea. Yes We Can!

I grew up in TN. Up until about 8 years ago, NO STORES were allowed to be open until noon on Sunday…not even Wal-Mart (The horrors). Talk about a pain in the butt when you had dedicated a Sunday morning to fixing your car, then realizing you couldn’t get parts till noon.

But they are disappearing all across the country…hopefully the trend continues here.

I don’t run into this law often, but when I do it’s almost always sunday brunch mimosas. I’ve delayed my brunch plans by 60 minutes before just so I could start at noon…
