I have to go down to Kansas City this weekend. With all the flooding and the partial closure of I-29, what's my best alternative route? Should I just take Highway 75 all the way to Topeka?

A co-worker who is also going to KC this weekend was taking 75 as his chosen route. We were planning a Worlds of Fun trip for the end of June but I’m not so sure now.

My understanding (although you should obviously confirm it) is that I-29 is open south of Rockport, MO. So, if you take US Hwy. 77 or Nebraska Hwys. 43 and 41 south to US Hwy. 136, you can cross at the Brownsville Bridge and take I-29 south from Rockport to KC. You would only lose 20 minutes or so.
Lincoln-area residents traveling to Kansas City can take U.S. 77 south through Beatrice and Marysville, Kan., toward Manhattan, Kan., then Interstate 70 to Kansas City. Travelers heading back to Nebraska from Kansas City would reverse that route.

I spoke to someone whose father lives in northwest Missouri and works in Nebraska; apparently both the Brownville and Rulo crossings are looking a bit iffy on the east side of the river. In addition, the Nebraska Department of Roads is not recommending taking US 75 south, due to construction along the route.
Finally, if you want to avoid the tolls on the Kansas Turnpike, US 36 east into St. Joe is a (relatively) quick route and that crossing should remain open for the time being.
