Whole Foods has finally opened. I can't help but feel like there's a huge segment of Lincoln's population which, when asked about big events in 2013, will recall this day while completely forgetting that whole arena thing.

I went around 10:30 today. They had a ton of samples out (all of them were super yummy). I found a bunch of food for our guinea pig (yup, he is loving Whole Foods) and some super yummy pretzel bread.
I think it will fit a wonderful niche here in town. I am interested to see how it will effect the natural store down by HyVee.

Were I a natural food customer, I would refuse to set foot in that natural store down by HyVee simply based on the horrendousness of their TV commercials.

I just came back. Quite impressive! But yes, its on the expensive side.
The store is around 2/3 the size of the Omaha one, or maybe even one half the size. Its probably a smarter approach for Lincoln I guess.
Off the bat I noticed in the produce section that they had a few things I’ve never seen elsewhere in town, like fresh turmeric for example (I’ve scoured several Asian groceries in town and then some, and even they only have frozen turmeric). They had a few other hard to find veggies. So definite kudos to WF on that. I’ll have to look more closely next time I’m there.
A noticeable absence (compared to the Oma location) was the lack of a fresh sushi bar, ice cream/gelato bar, and coffee/tea bar. I was sort of hoping for the sushi bar, but again, I guess it probably makes sense for Lincoln. On the other hand the salad and hot bars were pretty nice. They seemed to have a very nice bakery and lots of sweet treats.
I’m glad its open and will definitely stop in again. Its not going to be the place I get the majority of my groceries, but I imagine I will stop in pretty regularly nonetheless, especially given its central shopping location.
