If You’re in the Mood for a Hearty Debate…
If you’re the type who gets fired up over a good abortion debate, the UNL campus is the place to be. Better still, it sounds like there is a chance that folks from Westboro Baptist Church may be on campus today to enthusiastically share their message of love and compassion.
Today might not be the day for school groups to take a field trip to campus.

There are warning signs as you’re walking stating graphic pictures are ahead. But you still have to walk past them to get to class. Can’t walk with my head down or I’ll bump into people.
If I walked naked through this circus would anyone notice? Would I be allowed the same freedom of speech and expression?

Probably not. But just like with smokers it seems that there is always someone that has to take an activity that is both legal, and can be refused by the person against it, yet they feel the need to insert their idea of what is right or wrong into everyone else. I had a cousin carry a dead fetus for 3 months waiting out the last Leroy Carhart lawsuit because her doctor was concerned about the possible outcome of that at the time Whatever ‘your’ beliefs, they are ‘yours’.

So, how is it not cognitively dissonant to advocate the death of soldiers, yet ‘protect’ the unborn?

christ, I remember how the preachers used to cause a disturbance.
I can just imagine the kind of fiasco Westboro would cause.

West A Dad, it’s curious how you include walking around without clothes as a form of expression. I recommend taking an art class or two.
CS, not sure who is advocating the death of soldiers, so it’s hard to answer your question.
D.M.B., the DN article said the opposing viewpoints have been generally respectable, unlike when the preachers are out there.
I find it curious how in the same week we have the dictatorial leader of a terrorist state assigned a right to freedom of speech in America by an American university, yet people still find time to complain about certain Americans exercising their right to speak.

Dave K-you did read the root post about Westboro Baptist, right?

Ah, I missed that. I think I’m losing it. Those people can die in a fire for all I care.

Dave K, plenty of art in my background thanks. Spent 5 hours at Nelson-Atkins a month ago. The new Bloch addition is fantastic.

Be careful what you print about this group…
Mr. Phelps has 2 or 3 sons that are attorneys, and they do scour the net and sue anyone they can....

Phelps group is well known for showing up at US military funerals with all sorts of signs that are shameful…
