Assistant Fire Chief John Huff was reinstated by the City Personnel Board yesterday, and he plans to report for work today. Ultimately the City's contention that Huff's role in the firetruck fiasco warranted his firing came down to he-said-he-said between Huff and Deputy Chief of Maintenance Dennis Klein.
It seems like a reasonable outcome given the relatively weak evidence. That's not to say that Klein's word is no good, but simply that it alone isn't enough to take Huff off the job.

Score one for the good guys! John Huff is the kind of person we need more of in this town. He’s a hero, not a politician. Truly the kind of guy that will run into a building while others are running out. I am glad for him and for his family that this is (nearly?) over. I certainly hope the mayor and city don’t try to appeal—I think 7 months of him being on the sideline is enough, and it’s just more city time and money for a witchhunt and not a good cause. Save those dollars, and apply them to the HyVee road at 50th and O. If the mayor has backed off the idea of hiring a new chief, I think she needs to let this go as well. Welcome back, Mr. Huff!
From what I know about Huff I would say Fletch hit the nail on the head.
I think he was getting a raw deal on this one and it’s nice that he’s back on the job.
