I don't know about you, but this news completely devastated me.
Wait, did I say I'm devastated? Scratch that. I'm extremely pleased. So is Chief Casady.
Some of the city's younger crowd will bemoan the club's closing as yet another sign that there's nothing to do in this town. If Opulence -- and the accompanying crime associated with it -- is the sort of "good time" they are looking for, I doubt they'll find many sympathetic folks in the community.

It’s about time - there is no reason to tax our police department to such a degree on a regular basis.
Hope this means downtown will be more self-regulated when the bars close.
I thoroughly enjoy Casady’s blog. He has quite the sense of humor and it’s refreshing for our public officials to say it like anyone else would.
In my opinion, the easiest/simplest way to make downtown Lincoln look like less of a riot zone when the bars close would be to change state law to allow bars to stay open until 3 a.m.

I agree, except most people forget that the downtown is a community where people live. It would be interesting to see how the additional noise would impact the downtown residents.
I’ve lived downtown, in various locations, for the past three years; I’m inclined to believe that a slight increase in noise (with a moderate spike at 2:30-3:30) over a longer period of time would be better than the current situation, where we have a huge spike in street noise from 12:30 to 1:30.
