Friday Five

By: Mr. Wilson on November 17, 2006
It's a game edition of the Friday Five. Below are anagrams of five Lincoln neighborhoods. Can you figure them out?
  1. THEIR LAND HOGS (as opposed to their water hogs?)
  2. WEE EVIL CLOG (a bad movie about small, vicious wooden shoes?)
  3. HERO AUNTS (a new show on the CW?)
  4. LUST? A VICE. IN PYRE. (a verdict and sentence?)
  5. MOB IN, OUSTS TSAR (the newspaper headline the day after the revolution?)

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.

5 is Russian Bottoms, which is funny because I was struggling to make one of my own with Russian Bottoms but came up empty!

Russian Bottoms? Man I’ve never even heard of that neighborhood. Where the heck is that?

1 is Arnold Heights

Russian Bottoms is also known as South Bottoms southwest of downtown.

And now that Mr. T has solved #1, I should admit that one of mine is apparently redundant. Ooops.

Man I’ve never even heard of South Bottoms either. I need to get out more.

Where is foxspit?

Thanks for the extras, Chris! I got two of them, but I will let others hop in with the answers:

6. Too easy 😊
8. This one threw me for a second because there’s a red herring buried inside in the form of a different Lincoln neighborhood (but with extra letters remaining).

Aha, there I got 7. Good ones, Chris!

9. AYE, HELL INK (an affirmation of a fluid’s devilishness?)
10. HE HURLS LOTS IN (adding fuel to the fire?
11. T’WAS LIVELY VEAL (it leapt off the plate?)

If I’m not mistaken, that leaves 2, 7, and 8, right?

Is #2 College View(s)?

Chris

Oh - just realized i inserted an extra ‘S’ into #2 when I jotted it down on paper to work it out - I think it IS College View.

Mr. Wilson

Yep, it’s College View. I imagine it’s much more difficult to solve with an extra letter thrown in 😊

I live in the south bottoms, right next to the Germans from Russia museum and they fly a Canadian flag.  Not kidding.

That’s not terribly surprising, as a large number of Germans from Russia also settled in Canada:

Great post - I learned some new neighborhood names this morning!

FYI - I moved to Lincoln in 2005 and learned much of what I know of this town from the Wikipedia page about Lincoln. A wealth of information that surpassed any other resource in getting me oriented in a new town (and state).

OK Im stumped on 7 and 8. Come on dude, when are you going to spill the beans.

I tried to make my own anagram for “xterra” but couldn’t.

This one is a duplicate, so I’ll go ahead and say it:

8. Arnold Heights

I’ll just give a hint on 7: two words.

Number 7 is a part of town that is experiencing wild growth, though it is nowhere near the zoo.

7 is Wilderness Ridge.
