Five Lincolnites I would like to spend a day with:

  1. Mayor Colleen Seng
  2. John Chapo, Executive Director of the Folsom Children’s Zoo
  3. The Downtown “litter patrol”
  4. Butch Hug, University of Nebraska Assistant Athletic Director for Events
  5. Ann Ringlein, Owner of the Lincoln Running Company, Vice President of the Lincoln Track Club, assistant cross country coach and track and field distance coach at Nebraska Wesleyan, etc.

#4 Butch Hug is one of the most surrley men you’ll ever meet.  Hey butch can I get this door opened? *grumble grumble grumble* Hey butch, thanks for doing this for me.  *grumble grumble grumble*

You’ll get a better feeling walking away from a plant than you will butch hug.

Yeah, I’ve heard all that about Butch. But the guy has a cool job, and he’s very good at what he does.

Oh no doubt on both points.  But…I once saw him yell at someone for doing their job.  Not because the kid did his job, but butch had already had everything accounted for and when the kid was asking around to make sure everything was ok…Butch got mad.

I know virtually nothing about John Chapo, so I’m interested in why he is on this list.  I don’t disagree, just seems like an odd choice from my uninformed position.  Please educate me.

He’s just the head of the zoo. Mainly I’d just like to hang around the zoo all day, both to be with the animals, and to check out some of their marketing and community outreach efforts. You’ll also see Mr. Chapo at various community events, so he gets around town a fair bit.

When I was coming up with the list I tried to think of five very different people with very different roles in the community. And, with the exception of Mayor Seng, I wanted to hang out with people who probably wouldn’t ordinarily make this sort of a list.

Mr Chapo is a cool guy.  I’ve talked to him a couple times and he is alright in my book.

Here’s six for me, because I had a hard time narrowing it down:

1. Dan Siedell, curator of the Sheldon (actually, just about any of the staff there.)
2. Deborah Weber, head of the Lincoln Arts Council, because she seems nice.
3. Anne Burkholder- I’ve recently become interested in landscapes again, after years of shunning them. So i’d like to have a chat about them.
4. John Chapo- yeah, I stole this one. I’ve talked to him on the phone a few times to get donations for non profits, and he’s always been generous.
5. Keith Jacobshagen, painting professor @ UNL. He’s my teacher, but hard to pin down to talk to him for any amount of time. I’d love to talk with him some more about the drawing show he curated at the sheldon. (blatent plug- go see it! it’s good!)
6. Joey Lynch, because I like his art, and see him all over the place.

Oh, and you do know it’s no longer the Folsom Children’s Zoo, right? It’s just the Lincoln Children’s Zoo now. I don’t like their new logo. raspberry

<em>Oh, and you do know it

The membership cards still say “Folsom Children’s Zoo,” so it’s easy to miss. smile

I guess the new logo is a bit TOO kid centric for me- I love the zoo, as an adult, and don’t want other adults without kids to think it’s only for kids. I guess it is called a CHILDREN’S zoo, though. duh, karin.  I agree that the logo is a great one to use in a lot of different places though. I’m getting a little sick of overly complicated logos.

I sure hope they sponsor the photo contest again this year. I won $180 at the last one.
