Friday Farewell

By: Mr. Wilson on January 31, 2006
TGI Fridays is leaving Lincoln. The chain cited the (not yet begun) O Street widening project as the reason for their closure.

See what your friends and neighbors have to say about this.

hmmmm….  crybabies

I would have to say that of all the super chain places, that one would never even come to mind as a place I would consider eating at.

Sure it was fun to laugh at the flare when it first opened, and had some decent food that is exactly like all it’s competing chains food.  But it was nothing special.

Once they gave up on the flair there was no reason to go there.

I stopped going after the worst service I had ever had.  Got my beer and they never came back to take my order.  It was late at night and my server was the bartender who was busy talking to a pretty girl.  I know he just forgot about us, I do not blame the chain, yet it ended my intrest in the place.  My wife and I were both servers at the time and we always tip 20%+

Why is there not another outback?  The southside would be a perfect location.

wait.  They’re citing O’s expansion?  They don’t even reside on O, they’re on 48th.  And why would you want to close down when the expansion project will make it easier for people to get to the resturant (after it’s completed).  It’s so damn difficult to get in there now, you’d think that they’d want the O expansion.

My guess is that they wouldn’t be able to handle the hit of construction taking away from their business.  It’s always been fairly empty every time I have went.

The food has sucked every time I went there.  I won’t miss them.

Does this mean they’re bringing back Kool Crest?  I would be all for that.

Joshua, stop teasing me. No seriously. Stop getting my hopes up like that.

Sorry, but, what is “kool crest”? Is that some special flavor of toothpaste?

Kool Crest was the best. putt putt course. ever.  And it was thereabouts in that location, maybe a couple of lots more north as well.

There’s an existing Cool Crest course in St. Joe’s Missouri, very similar to the one that used to be in Lincoln.

There are a few real reasons for Friday’s shutting down.

1) Friday’s requires franchises to renovate every 15 years, the owner didn’t want to do it.
2) The owner tried to sell the restaurant a few years ago, but didn’t treat potential buyers very well. Now no one will deal with him.
3)Even though Friday’s is not on O, the construction was projected to cut their business in half.

Now if we can only get rid of: Applebee’s, Ruby Tuesday, Outback, Chili’s etc….....

ha…....
I do agree with your reasoning.

It was just that I felt you were taking their side until the last line.  and I was ready to pounce.

Nice, that was awesome.
