Flashy New Signs

By: Mr. Wilson on May 21, 2007
Have you noticed the new electronic billboards popping up around town? I have seen two: one near 56th and Old Cheney, and the other near 48th and Normal. Are there others? What's your opinion of them?

Those are the only two I’ve seen so far. At 2 in the morning, they appear to be shut off (they just give off a weird blueish glow), which allows advertisers to only pay for prime time, I guess. I would imagine they’re the wave of the future for billboards.

The ads I’ve seen flash by so fast, they’re harder to read than normal billboards. Especially the one on 56th -it’s not very tall, and gets covered up with buildings by the time I’m close enough (coming from the north) to be able to read the billboard.

What are you doing awake at 2 AM??

I think these flashy billboards are too bright and cause too much distraction.  Several cities are not allowing them because of the safety factor.

Normally, I’m not up at that hour, but my stepdaughter turned 40 and I decorated her front lawn. Not knowing what time her family went to bed (she has teens), I waited until midnight to head across town.

What can I say? I’m a kid at heart.

I didn’t even notice it was one of the new ones till it changed- but that was during the day.

I have a feeling there will be one outside my windows sometime, at that point, I’ll be mad.
