Twenty-five years after being purchased by NU Foundation, the former Whittier Junior High will finally get the makeover it deserves beginning next fall. As expected, the historic building will be converted into research space for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In addition, the University has committed to remodeling 13,000 square feet into a new childcare center that may hold up to 150 kids.
It's about time.

Unfortunately, UNL renovations tend to equal “taking all the character out of historic buildings so they look as bland and dull as possible inside.”
I have only seen a handful of images of the interior of the building and the ones I saw were pretty bland and dull. I hope the renovation can restore some of the original charm.
Glad to see - it’s a classic looking building from the outside, and I’ve wondered since my arrival in 1985 what would become of it.

Even if the inside is renovated, the building stands as a part of the city’s history.
Agreed. Our culture here seems to be build cheap and tear it down in 50 years. I’m thankful to see they will keep the building and restore it.
