Ernie Chambers is Officially My Hero

Nebraska Democratic State Senator Ernie Chambers has decided to go straight to the top in an effort to stop natural disasters from befalling the world.

Chambers filed a lawsuit against God in Douglas County Court Friday afternoon, KPTM Fox 42 reported.

Read it for yourself. And believe it or not, there is a purpose behind Ernie’s actions. There always is.

He’s your hero?  He’s gaining national attention making a fool of himself, his constituents, and all Nebraskans.  I find this embarrassing, not admirable. I would think you’re being facetious with the title of your post but some of your past stuff makes me think otherwise.  And no, his so-called ‘purpose’ does not redeem the idiocy.

My favorite line in Ernie’s petition is “Defendant’s ongoing terroristic threats are credible, based on Defendant’s past conduct and history.”

Still, I doubt we will be seeing God in the Douglas County jail anytime soon.

Tom Becka had an interview with him on his program today, after which a caller said that in the old days, what Ernie has done would be called blasphemy, and “we’d have his head for this.” The caller then went on to predict Ernie would be dead within the year.

I am fairly certain that Ernie can’t Die!  :o)

His purpose is to illustrate that NE allows any fool to sue anyone for any reason. This ties up the courts from dealing with more pressing issues. He should have been censured and had his lawsuit thrown out, but instead, he is allowed to proceed. The absurdity of the whole thing and the press it will get is what will bring attention to his point and maybe something will get done about it.

I don’t feel that anyone should be able to sue for anything. The courts have enough to worry about.

I’m with Mr. Wilson. Chambers is masterful at circumventing the system to make a point and you can always count on Chambers to say what needs to be said.

I don’t agree with him all the time, but I respect his methods and his ingenuity.

I think this is funny but I don’t necessarily think this is the best move on his part and its not productive. His petition will certainly get thrown out and he knows it, and yes it is also a waste of time and definitely an attention-getter. His point seems to be to prevent excessive legislative control over the judicial branch via a pre-emptive bar against some citizen suits. Correct me if I am wrong. I do think that that position has its merits, but I would rather see that fight slogged out in the legislature and not through acts like this.

Having said that, I agree with Foxspit - I respect Ernie for his ingenuity, cajones, and continued presence in an environment that is obviously pretty hostile to him.

I hope God countersues.

This should make for some VERY interesting Court TV programming.

God can’t counter sue there are no Lawyers in Heaven.  :o)

God may not counter, but he certainly will pass judgment.

Duffman - good point! I think that God could present his own case (but then, would he also have a fool for a client?). This just gets more deep. Freaky.

I’m with Mr. Wilson. Of the three states I’ve lived in he’s the only State Senator I can actually name. I don’t always agree with him, but that is OK. He’s only got one vite on things. I do however, admire his gamesmanship.

Kudos Mr. Chambers. You’ve gained my attention to your “issue of the moment” once again, and that was your goal. Well played.

vite=VOTE.

Time to put my fingers on a diet…
