Eat Your Greens

By: Mr. Wilson on December 6, 2010
Mr. T treated me to breakfast at The Green Gateau yesterday morning. It was only my second trip to the restaurant, and frankly that seems like a big problem to me. The Green Gateau has a nice atmosphere and great food. Why don't I get there more often? I think the same can be asked of Lincolnites in general. The Green Gateau is almost never mentioned among Lincoln's notable restaurants. It seems most people know it's a respected establishment, yet it's quite easily overlooked. I know I forget about it pretty much all the time unless I happen to be driving up 10th Street. So far I've only tried breakfast at The Green Gateau. I'm going to make a commitment to try lunch and/or dinner as well. The menus look fantastic. Tell me your Green Gateau tales!

Good food. Parking sucks.

We parked directly in front of the door.

Then again, that was on Sunday at 9am.

We’ve been there 6 or 7 times in the last few years and we love it. For a downtown restaurant to have any off-street parking says to me that the parking most certainly does not suck. Unless you go down there on game day, you’re going to be able to park within a block. Not bad at all for downtown.

The atmosphere is very nice and the service is usually pretty good. As for the food, everything we’ve ever had there has been great, although I really don’t care for the crispy parmesan cheese thing that comes with the salad. I highly recommend the cordon bleu crepes or the grilled crab cakes.

My Lovely Wife and I had breakfast there on the day of our Wedding 13 years ago and again for all of our anniversaries.  So, the good memories color our view of the place.

We know about it. We love it. Still, we don’t get there often enough. I’ve heard their Wednesday evening burger special is amazing. Most underrated, overlooked restaurant in Lincoln.
