The commentator is right on in my opinion. The folks the republicans are trying to curry to perceive “man’s law” as being insignificant when compared to “God’s law.” In that sense they could care less. Where they do count is at the ballot box. That’s the only equation here for DeLay and company. OK OK, *slap* stop bashing the religious right Mr. T. Alright I won’t bash anymore.

But here is a somewhat interesting take I just heard from another commentator: Bush and company will likely gain points from this whole escapade if the courts rule against the schindler’s (and it seems certain that they will). Why? Because - from the perspective of the religious right - its just another example of out of hand liberal/secular courts assaulting God and beating down the good guys from the red states (i.e. the DeLays and Bushes of this country who ruin their weekends to fly back to DC to try and pass last minute laws).

I should clarify - when I mean “God’s law” I mean “Man’s interpretation of what ‘God’s law’ is.” And we all know that when humans get a little over zealous and think they know what God is thinking…the result is usually not too pleasant.
