Bruning for Senate?

As much as I dread the thought of Senator John Bruning (R.-NE), I would put money on that being the gist of his announcement today.

I hope he runs regardless of what Chuck “no decision” Hagel does. I think he could perhaps unseat the incumbant.

‘Senator Bruning’ would be fantastic. Hagel certainly made his non-announcement to try and stifle any other Republicans from entering the Senate race.  If Bruning announces he’s running, it will essentially be a middle finger for Hagel.  Hagel is unpopular in this state, but I’m not certain he’s so unpopular that he could unseat Hagel.

What would bother me is that if Bruning wants to run for Hagel’s seat, why couldn’t he run for Ben’s?  That wouldn’t have been an easy election, but at least Nebraska Republicans wouldn’t have been forced to support Pete Ricketts’ campaign.

It must have taken Bruning this long to figure out a way that, if elected, he could get the U.S. Senate to pay for his constant stream of “public service announcements” reminding us that please, he’s thinking of the children!

Hagel’s delayed announcement serves his friend and ally Mike Johanns very well - now Johanns can finish his work on the farm bill before having to start campaigning. This stunt proves that Bruning is a boy among men - playing politcal games to feed his ambition while public servants like Mike Johanns and Chuck Hagel are working to actually better our state and nation.
