Bike Trail News

By: Mr. Wilson on July 23, 2008
I can't believe it's finally happening. Lincoln has for years been discussing the construction of a bridge over North 27th Street near X Street, and now it's finally happening. It is an important component of the Mopac trail, which extends all the way from UNL's City Campus to 84th Street and beyond. In other bike trail news, I noticed construction equipment near the underpass at 48th and Highway 2. Looks like they're finally going to repair the portion of the trail that was poorly rebuilt after work in and around nearby Beal Slough. Hopefully they get it right this time. And one last item: I recently saw that the 27th and Capitol Parkway underpass is closed. What's the story there?

That underpass has been closed for ‘flooding’ for at least a couple months now.  My guess is that it flooded once and they closed it, without bothering to go back and check it out.  I’ve been going under it without a problem.

I live on 33rd/Apple St, which Apple runs all the way to 27th, I am so happy to hear they are going to finally put an overpass over 27th! A cyclist literally has to wait nearly 5 mins for traffic to be just right for a complete crossing… and then people still fly out of the parking lots of nearby businesses and act as if they are TRYING to run you over. this is good news!

I used to go under the “flooded” underpass too.  Going by it last night though they have the entire west side blocked off, so I wouldn’t recommend it now.
