Best Buy’s Out, Trader Joe’s is In?

July 16, 2010 at 8:10am By: Mr. Wilson Posted in The Lincolnite Blog

I suppose technically it isn’t official, but the fact that Trader Joe’s has applied for a liquor license at 3120 Pine Lake Road is a pretty good indication that the store will soon fill the spot at SouthPointe formerly rumored to be eyed by Best Buy. It’ll be interesting to see how TJ’s fits into Lincoln’s supermarket scene. I’m particularly curious to see if other stores—for example the nearby Super Saver and Hy-Vee locations—will adjust their food selection in response to TJ’s popularity (if it does, in fact, prove popular).

Some of you out there are big foodies. How huge is this news for you?

Pretty big, I think. I think it will get a lot of business in that neighborhood.

This is fantastic news! Mr. Wisco and I used to live right by a Trader Joes, and it’s a fantastic place for good quality food at great prices. Kind of like a more affordable Whole Foods (but with less produce). It also is a great place for good prices on beer/wine.

I like Trader Joe’s, I used to work in CA and went often.  What I hope this does do it bring Whole Foods here next!!!

Man, this would be the best thing ever.  If we had a TJ’s here it would become my primary grocery store.  Fingers crossed!

Chuck - allow me to introduce Lincoln.

I think you will enjoy each others company.

Woohoo!

I think it’s huge, and I think it will do very well there. It’s a small store, but they pack in a lot of variety. We’ve hit one in the Twin Cities and found it a good place to get some healthier snack foods and try some new things. Prices seemed good to me. Very excited to see it coming here, and although I would have liked to see Best Buy, we will definitely hit TJ’s more often.

Lincoln is getting Trader Joe’s??  That’s awesome...except that I live in Kansas City now and we STILL don’t have TJ’s.  Might have to move back north…

D.M.B. says Lincoln desperately needs another Best July 19, 2010 at 11:57am

Lincoln desperately needs another Best Buy. That location just doesn’t cut it.

Or better yet would be a competitor to Best Buy.

Paul says Best Buy = Overrated July 20, 2010 at 9:40pm

Best Buy = Overrated

Peter Stewart says RE: Best Buy = Overrated July 21, 2010 at 1:28pm

agreed.  Anything Best Buy has I can get on-line (and save sales tax, usually).  Trader Joe’s is a fine, fine retailer.

We shopped in Trader Joe’s while in San Diego last year. I remember thinking that I wished we had something like that in Lincoln, because there was a lot of cool stuff I would have bought! So, I’ll be interested to see what they offer here. I LOVE Whole Foods, so will be glad to have an alternative in Lincoln. I live close to Gateway, so will be a trek across town for me - but that’s ok, I won’t be tempted to over-shop. Welcome to Lincoln, TJ!
