Are You Ready for a Noisy Week?

By: Mr. Wilson on June 30, 2008
Are you and your dogs ready to lose some sleep this week? We here at 625 Elm Street are reluctantly preparing ourselves for at least one sleepless night (Friday), and possibly more if the neighbors get antsy earlier in the week. Robert is going through a phase in which he is scared of thunder; I can't imagine that fireworks will go over very well. Our neighbors across the street are hosting a big party on Friday, including a large fireworks show. I suspect it'll be good and loud. Speaking of fireworks, you'll probably pay more this year (surprise surprise!), but you will also have a few new varieties to investigate. Some new artillery shells and propeller fireworks were approved for sale this year. Do any of you plan to go to Oak Lake for the City's fireworks show? I still haven't been to one of the City's shows. When I was younger my family always did our own thing, often with the help of neighbors. Now, fatherhood keeps me close to home. Maybe when Robert gets older we'll give it a try. Who is going to have the best party later this week? What are your plans?

we are going to attend the Oak lake celebration this year.  My first Lincoln fireworks show in well over 12 years.  I am skipping the tradition of a certian friends house which has been going downhill for a while.

We are fortunate enough to live a few blocks from the salt creek levee trail and about a mile from Oak Lake.  We are gonna pedal down and enjoy the big stuff.

I doubt the street lights will be shot out with a shotgun like Jeff’s uncle did a few years back, but it should still be fun.

That is a good idea. I might head on over there myself. I have yet to attend a fireworks display in Lincoln.

I like to think of myself as a fun loving guy, but Lincoln “celebrates” the 4th of July like no place I’ve ever seen and it brings out the curmudgeon in me. It is a lawless embarassment to an otherwise sane city.

This year I’ve made appropriate plans to be out of town visiting family. If my house burns down the neighbors know how to get ahold of me.

I just dislike the 4th in general ... now that I have a dog he freaks out at all the banging.  Celebrating with the re-creation of bombs and explosions? ... just seems dumb to me I guess.

Plus I think what the needy and less fortunate countries think when we buy stuff to just blow up.
