Antelope Valley’s First Big Project?

Could a new four-story retail and residential building at 17th and O, where the Images II building currently stands, be the first big Antelope Valley project to come to fruition? The project matches goals for the area according to the Downtown Master Plan and the Antelope Valley plan, so it would seem the project shouldn’t run into any hurdles from the government. The big question is: can that part of Downtown support 40 condos right now? I suppose the best answer is: somebody has to be the first to redevelop the area.

It’s way too close to The Spigot for me to want to live there. It doesn’t seem like a great place to build living dwellings. You’d be bordered by two very busy streets, and the surroundings aren’t incredibly attractive.  They could probably change that, but the changes I’m thinking about would cost more than $900k.

I, perhaps wrongly, expect the Antelope Valley project to do a lot to improve that corridor.

And isn’t there a plan (or at least talk of one) to change traffic patterns on 17th?  Images II is sitting on what will someday be some prime real estate.

I think this might be a good idea, but I can’t say I would want to live there if they were open today.  As the location exists today ... not very attractive.

I expect that to change as the AV project is completed.
