It’s the only thing that has been exciting about this election so far.

Now I’m confused. Which particular group of jackasses do you mean?  The Democrats or the Parties or the Commenters (both here and at LJS)?

This confusion could have been avoided had you referred only to the aggressor, the one who “threw the first punch”, so to speak.

I would’ve thought the title of the post, the first line (“Dear Lincoln City Council Candidates and the Republican and Democratic Parties”), and the subject matter of the linked article made the answer to your question pretty clear. Why would you think I was referring to commenters?

As for restricting the target of my letter to those who “threw the first punch”, that’s far too narrow. Anybody who throws a dirty punch is equally to blame, whether or not it came first.

From what I know about this incident, and what I observed in my own district last election cycle, it is not a case of “both sides do it”.

The dirty punches originate from the Republicans, whether directly from their party or from their surrogate organizations.

When the topic they originate is attendance at meetings, what would you have the other side do? Just hang their heads in mute shame?  What, exactly, is the dirty punch that the Democrats delivered and how could the Democrats have responded to this incident without such a dirty punch; what could that response have been?

I’m not buying the “both sides do it” argument in general and particularly not in this case.

I need to get me some rose-colored glasses, too.

I actually had some in the 70s… the hair and beard to go with, too. 😉

Ahhh, *now* your ‘both sides do it’ frame fits the picture perfectly.  http://winterized.org/2011/04/25/dems-smear-campaign-begins

And once again, my impatience leads me into error.  I should try to remember that no matter how low the bar of achievement is set, it can always be lowered a bit more.
