A Robot Named Stinky
Four high school students from Phoenix, all illegal, beat a corporate-funded MIT team in an engineering competition? Yeah, right. Only in a cheesy Disney movie.
(I also came across a brief follow-up article.

It’s the kind of story that drives these guys (among many others) nuts. And for good reason: the four students and their families are in the United States illegally. On the other hand, these kids and their families are exactly the kind of immigrants we want to be here—smart, hard-working, not interested in just sitting back and sucking down somebody else’s tax dollars.
This is precisely the type of story that helps drive policy change because it puts a real face on an abstract issue. I would like to see the story advertised a bit more widely to encourage a broader debate about immigration issues, policies related to higher education for illegal immigrants’ children, and related topics.

I totally agree with your analysis.
