A Message the County Board Will Never Hear

By: Mr. Wilson on May 14, 2008
The jail bond issue was defeated yesterday. Not that it matters. The jail will be built anyway. Will the County Board take away any lessons from the vote? I wouldn't bet on it.

No, I don’t believe the County Board will learn any lessons from the bond vote.  The Board apparently knows much more about the jail issue than the community as a whole or the Sheriff or the Police Chief.  However, those who voted and, even, those who did not vote could learn a a thing or two.  1. Don’t re-elect County Board members without some serious thought about the Board’s previous actions.  2. We, seemingly, get bombarded with bond issues.  Don’t vote for or against a bond issue without understanding what you are voting for or against.  On a related topic, never vote for a bond issue to be decided in a special election held on the anniversary of the St. Valentine’s day massacre…

I’m not sure there’s been something on the ballot in recent memory that’s been so confusing or that people understood so little about (myself included). I was listening to Coby Mack on the radio, taking calls from people that had already voted, and most had no clue what they were voting for or against. Who knows what percentage of the votes cast were what the voter actually wanted to see happen.
