Smoked Out

Looks like Lincoln’s last smoking ban holdout—well, other than the Freedom Flyer—is being shut down. Sultana’s Kahve owner Jamal Husein plans to fight the city’s decision. I wish you luck, Mr. Husein, but I don’t think even the multiculturalism card is strong enough to overcome the health nannies.

The link to the LJS story needs fixing.

I agree with your conclusion. The private poker game analogy doesn’t work since its clear just from the article that they are selling things to consumers in there, including the smoke.

Unrelated, I had the “pleasure” of smoking from a hookah a few times before. The water cools the smoke so thoroughly that you don’t realize how much you have inhaled until much later. Its very very smooth. Then when it hits you you feel sick to your stomach and on the verge of unconsciousness for the next few hours. If I remember correctly I passed out about an hour after the first time I used one. Clearly I had no idea how much to take in at once. Anyway I kind of like the idea of an outdoor café in downtown. But I wonder how successful that would be?
