One for the Film Buffs
Here’s a weird and random question for you film buffs out there:
It is common in romantic movies for there to be a scene in which the male and female characters dance while they are angry or annoyed with each other. It is so common, in fact, I would call it a cliche. In what movie and with which actors did that cliche originate? Any guesses?

It would be nice if someone could pin down the original movie that started that archetype. If you go back and look at some of the golden age movies of the 30s and 40s, the “man v woman” (or more like “husband v wife” or “suitor v virgin” in those days) battle was superimposed on all sorts of backdrops, the “Gone with the Wind” dance scene being one of many different scenarios in modern film. But hell, you can go back to Shakespeare to see that same sort of banter in popular culture.
Anyway, probably the last good dance movie I have seen in recent years was the original “Shall We Dance.”
