Anything Goes in the War on Drugs
I’m not usually a Rodney Balko fan, but his latest article is a sober assessment of the erosion of civil liberties we tolerate in order to conduct the War on Drugs™.

This ruling makes sense given the Court’s holdings for the past few decades over car searches. Even when it involves homes, I believe the cops are allowed to use things like electricity bills in consideration of probable cause to conduct home searches. Seem to be 3 things at issue here..1) the rehnquist court has been heading this way ever since its coming of age as a pro-expansion of police power court in the wake of the burger era; 2) the policy choice of keeping drugs illegal; and 3) society’s response (or lack of response) to government action.
